USD Suffers Its 6th Straight Defeat as Menlo Connects, 34-8

University of San Diego’s football team ended its Division III season Saturday with a 34-8 loss at Menlo College in Atherton, Calif., the Toreros’ sixth straight loss after winning three of their first four games.

Quarterback Jerald Montano paced Menlo (4-4-1) to a 13-0 first-quarter lead, scoring on a three-yard run and throwing a 45-yard touchdown pass to Scott DeSilva. Menlo, which gained 258 yards rushing, scored two more touchdowns on the ground in the first half on a one-yard run by Jeff Semba and a three-yard run by Michael Dwane.

Montano completed 6 of 8 passes for 133 yards, including a five-yard touchdown pass to Mike Weinberger in the third quarter.

USD quarterback Pat Dixon, completed 7 of 19 passes for 98 yards, but threw 2 interceptions. Reserve quarterback Pat McNamara--who had thrown only one pass this season--took over in the fourth quarter and had three passes, two of which were intercepted.
