Sitton Sets Mark, Then Sees CSUN Lose in Overtime

Denise Sitton got her record, but she wasn’t very happy after Cal State Northridge’s basketball game against Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday night in Carson.

Mad and frustrated would be a better description. And probably a little embarrassed.

Dominguez Hills snapped a 17-game losing streak in California Collegiate Athletic Assn. games, defeating Northridge, 64-61, in overtime.

And Sitton could only watch.

After setting a Northridge career scoring record during an 18-point first-half, Sitton was a spectator in the decisive part of the game after fouling out with five minutes left in regulation.

She finished with 22 points and has 1,275 in her career--11 more than Paula Moran, now an assistant at Northridge. But that was little consolation.

“I thought we would beat this team by 20. . . . We’ve never had a good experience at this gym,” she said.

The Lady Matadors led in overtime, 61-59, but the Lady Toros made 5 of 6 free throws in the last minute to win.
