Orange County Prep Basketball : Troy Gets Defensive, Beats Sonora

Brad DeLoof scored 11 points Monday night to help Troy High School defeat Sonora, 46-37, in a Freeway League game played at Fullerton.

The Warriors built a 21-11 halftime lead on the strength of their defense, which limited Sonora’s Grayle Humphrey and Dave Morris to two points each in the first half. Humphrey finished with 16 points, and Morris had 10.

Troy (6-1 in league, 15-5 overall) remains tied for first place with Fullerton, while Sonora falls to 3-4.

In other Freeway League action:

Buena Park 64, Sunny Hills 58--Gary Hunter scored 19 points, Kevin Graddy added 18 and Mike Toscano 17 to help the Coyotes (2-5) defeat the Lancers (3-4, 11-8) at Buena Park High. The game was tied, 17-17, after one quarter, but Buena Park outscored Sunny Hills, 17-9, in the second quarter to take a 34-25 halftime lead. Sunny Hills’ David Chisum led all scorers with 21 points.

Fullerton 67, La Habra 44--Greg Wilber scored 17 of his 19 points, including three three-point shots, in the first half to lead the Indians past the Highlanders at Fullerton. Junior center Alan Lewis added 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Indians (6-1, 10-6), who got their sixth straight victory. Alan Newman and Jason Reese each scored 12 points for La Habra (1-6, 2-15).

In girls’ basketball action:

St. Margaret’s 28, Walden 16--Robin San Filippo scored eight points to lead the Tartans (1-1, 5-7) to the Collegiate League victory at St. Margaret’s.
