San Diego High School Baseball : Christian Rallies to Win, 9-8

Share

Jerry Huson, Christian High School’s baseball coach, told his team not to quit trying, even though it trailed Lincoln, 8-3, with two out and nobody on in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday at Christian High in El Cajon.

“I was saying, ‘Don’t give up,’ but I didn’t really believe in it,” Huson said.

Now, he’s a believer. Christian (6-2, 12-5) scored six runs to beat Lincoln, 9-8, and hang on to a share of first place in the City Central League.

David Jeremiah capped the comeback when he scored from third base on a wild pitch. The rally had started eight batters earlier when John Okken drew a walk.

Singles by Mike Ippolito and Chris Waymire loaded the bases, and Matt Broullete followed with a two-run single to make it 8-5. Craig Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, and Jeremiah followed with a grounder to short that Kevin Mitchell couldn’t handle, scoring Waymire.

David Beezer made it 8-7 with an RBI single, and Jimmy Loucks was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run.
