San Diego High School Baseball : Flynn Breaks Single-Season Home Run Record

T.J. Flynn hit his 13th home run to set the San Diego Section single-season record as Fallbrook defeated Ramona, 19-0, Thursday in a nonleague baseball game at Fallbrook.

Flynn broke the record of 12 held by four players. Jeff Lawrence added a two-run homer in the first and Bill Dunkel had a solo home run in the third. Fallbrook is 16-5. Jamie Wilcox (3-1) pitched four innings, allowing one hit and striking out six.

PALOMAR LEAGUE

Orange Glen 5, Mt. Carmel 4--Frank Escalante hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning as No. 3-ranked Orange Glen (7-1, 17-5) beat No. 2-ranked Mt. Carmel (7-2, 17-5) and took over first place in the Palomar League. Ray Chatton pitched 5 innings of scoreless relief after Mt. Carmel had taken a 4-1 lead in the second inning.

Duffy Daugherty retired Mt. Carmel in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the save. Rick Martinez hit a one-out double in the seventh before Escalante followed with his game-winning homer.

METRO MESA LEAGUE

Hilltop 8, Sweetwater 3--Ward Lannom went 2 for 4, scored three runs and hit a bases-empty home run to lead Hilltop (7-2, 10-7). Troy Miehls was 2 for 2, scored twice and had an RBI for Hilltop. Sweetwater is 2-6, 6-13.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

San Marcos 9, Carlsbad 3--Mike Dent’s two-run single highlighted a six-run fourth-inning that carried San Marcos (6-3, 11-10) past Carlsbad (6-3, 10-10) at San Marcos. Paul Jeffers went 5 innings to pick up the win. San Marcos got six of its 12 hits in the fourth when it erased a 2-1 deficit.

Escondido 11, El Camino 2--Andy Martin pitched a five-hitter and also had two hits and two RBIs as Escondido (7-2, 10-10) moved into first place with the win at home. Alan Brown hit a home run and drove in four runs for the Cougars, who lead San Marcos and Carlsbad by one game.

Oceanside 3, San Pasqual 1--Keith Combs pitched a five-hitter and also had two hits as Oceanside (4-4, 6-12) won at San Pasqual. Combs allowed a run in the first before Oceanside rallied, taking advantage of two errors. San Pasqual (5-4, 12-9) fell two games behind league-leading Escondido.
