ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASEBALL : Freeway League : Fullerton Hits Five Home Runs to Overpower Troy

Fullerton High School hit a season-high five home runs to defeat Troy, 12-6, in a Freeway League baseball game Friday at Fullerton.

The Indians (9-4, 15-7) trail league-leading Troy (10-3, 16-6) by one game with two left. Fullerton concludes the season with two games against Sunny Hills, and Troy plays La Habra twice.

Fullerton took a 1-0 lead on a home run by Steve Peterson, his fifth, in the first. Fullerton scored two runs in the second and three in the third on a three-run home run by Jeff Bailey. It was Bailey’s eighth.

Fullerton added four runs in the fifth on a pair of two-run home runs. The first was by Steve DePhillips, his fifth, and the second by Aaron Acton, also his fifth. Brett Reuter hit the final Fullerton home run in the sixth with a man on. Fullerton, which scored 10 of its 12 runs as a direct result of home runs, has 36 home runs this season.

Troy scored six runs in the fifth, including a three-run home run by David Wilson to cut the Fullerton lead to 10-6.

Calos Martinez (5-0) pitched 5 innings for the victory and Kurt Hindman pitched the final 1 to get his sixth save. Jeff Ferren took the loss for Troy.

La Habra 21, Buena Park 4--Brian Hutcherson was 4 for 6, had a double and scored three runs as the Highlanders (7-6, 10-9) won at Buena Park. Matt Lipscomb hit a three-run home run, his second, for La Habra in the second. John Robertson was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, Jamie Hutcherson was 3 for 4 and scored three runs and Rob Bills was 2 for 3, scored two runs and had an RBI for La Habra.

Jason Reese (6-3) pitched a four-hitter and gave up only two earned runs. Buena Park (1-12, 1-16) had beaten La Habra, 7-4, Wednesday for its first win of the season.

Sonora 8, Sunny Hills 1--David Morris pitched a complete game to help the Raiders (7-6, 10-12) keep pace with La Habra for third place. Sonora concludes the season with two games against last-place Buena Park.
