Prep Baseball : Edison Batters Brea-Olinda’s Pitching for 15-3 Victory

Edison High School’s Chris Lloyd and Josh Bammer wore out Brea-Olinda pitching Friday in the first round of the El Segundo baseball tournament.

Lloyd drove in six runs and Bammer five as Edison opened its season with a 15-3 victory over Brea-Olinda at Edison.

Bammer, a senior third baseman, had three hits, including two home runs. Lloyd, a senior outfielder, had two hits, both of which were homers.

Ed Garcia hit a two-run home run for Brea-Olinda (0-1).

Steve Colton went the distance for the victory.

In other El Segundo tournament games:

Esperanza 6, Cerritos 3--Jason Moler went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Esperanza (1-0) at Cerritos. Doug Saunders went 1 for 2 with a home run and also pitched the seventh inning, picking up a save, for Esperanza. Roger Weems pitched five innings for the victory.

Westminster 19, Lynwood 0--Joe Maisano went 4 for 4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs for Westminster (1-0) at Lynwood. Brian Stubbs went 4 for 5 with three RBIs, as Westminster had 24 hits. Stubbs also pitched five innings for the victory.

In the Loara tournament:

Diamond Bar 3, Savanna 2--Paul Spere pitched 6 innings, striking out five, for the victory for host Diamond Bar (1-0). Savanna is 0-1.

Irvine 4, Los Amigos 2--John Bretza threw four shutout innings for the victory and David Goldstein pitched one inning for the save at Irvine. Terry Rahmatulla had a double and two RBIs for Irvine (1-0). Todd Schmidgall had two hits for Los Amigos (0-1).

El Dorado 9, Dana Hills 5--Rene Ayala hit a two-run homer in the second and Chris Facione hit a solo shot in the fourth for host El Dorado (1-0). Pete Janicki pitched five innings for the victory. Dennis Papp hit a solo home run for Dana Hills (0-1).

Kennedy 8, Katella 4--Jeff Yourstone went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Katella (0-1) at Boysen Park.

Anaheim 9, Loara 7--Joe Perez had three hits and two RBIs for Anaheim (1-0) at Loara. Robert Fernandez pitched six innings for the victory. Craig Clayton and Matt Drager each drove in a run for Loara (0-1).

La Quinta 4, Fountain Valley 3--Mike Wilson pitched six shutout innings, allowing just two hits, at Fountain Valley. Gerry Arneson went 3 for 3 with a run scored and Bob Heyl went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored for La Quinta (1-0). Brad Futak hit a three-run homer for Fountain Valley (0-1).

El Toro 5, University 4--Chris McCarthy singled home Dave Nemeth with the tie-breaking run in the sixth for host El Toro (0-1). Forest Hayes went 3 for 3 for El Toro. Freshman Brad House pitched two hitless innings of relief for the victory.

San Clemente 2, Laguna Hills 0--Pitcher Brent Ferguson drove in Rocco Falabella with the winning run for San Clemente (1-0).

Marina 4, Downey 2--Marcus Nelson pitched four innings for the victory and also drove in three runs for host Marina. Chris Craig and Ted Lasch had two hits each for Marina (1-0).

Ocean View 9, Western 6--Steve Hernandez went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles for Ocean View (1-0), but his biggest hit was a single in the 13th inning which drove in Fred Fried to break a 6-6 tie. Dan Maulty pitched seven innings and allowed two hits for his first win.

Huntington Beach 8, Pacifica 4--Chris Bowen went 2 for 3 with a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run single in the fourth for Huntington Beach (1-0). Dominic Alvarez pitched five innings for the victory.

Servite 16, Magnolia 1--Tom Szymanski went 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Servite (1-0) at Glover Stadium. Szymanski also pitched four innings for the victory.

Villa Park 14, North (Riverside) 3--John Watrous went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI to lead Villa Park (1-0) at Boysen Park. Watrous also pitch five innings for the victory.

In nonleague play:

Pioneer 9, Trabuco Hills 8--Mike Trujillo went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for host Pioneer (1-0). Jay Spidemore went 3 for 3 for Trabuco Hills (0-1).

Corona del Mar 9, Laguna Beach 6--Gary Sussman helped himself get the win by going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kurt Ehmann went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Corona del Mar (1-0). Danny Lane went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple and two RBIs for Laguna Beach (0-1).

Orange Lutheran 9, Aquinas 3--Matt Wilson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Tim McCann went 3 for 4 with a run scored for Orange Lutheran (1-0) at San Bernardino.
