Prep Roundup : Edison’s Carpenter Stops Fullerton on One Hit

Terry Carpenter threw a one-hitter as Edison High School defeated Fullerton, 5-0, in the first round of the Canyon softball tournament at Paralta Park Thursday.

Carpenter (4-1), who has three no-hitters this season, struck out 16 and allowed only a second-inning single.

Edison is 5-1.

In other Canyon tournament games:

Kennedy 7, Westminster 4--Laura Graper drove in two runs, one on a solo home run, to lead Kennedy (5-2) at Riverdale Park in Anaheim.

Western 7, Millikan 1--Dina Petersen tossed a three-hitter for Western at Canyon High School.

Mater Dei 3, Cypress 1--Janet Rensing went 3 for 4 to lead Mater Dei (5-2) at Paralta Park. Cypress is 3-5.

St. Joseph’s 9, Loara 0--Bev Stigoeaur hit a grand slam to lead St. Joseph (5-0) in a game called after five innings because of the mercy rule at Paralta Park.

In the Laguna Hills tournament:

El Toro 1, Mary Star of the Sea 0--Sophomore Jenny Jourden (2-0) gave up 4 hits and struck out 9 to lead El Toro (7-0) at Alicia Park at Mission Viejo.

Irvine 6, Mission Viejo 0--Jennifer Brundage (3-1) pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight for the victory at Alicia Park.

In nonleague:

Brea-Olinda 7--6 Rosary 0-2--In the first game, Kelly Cook (5-2) tossed a no-hitter, striking out 11, for host Brea-Olinda. In the second game, Allison Bickel had 2 triples and 2 RBIs for Brea (6-2).

Orange Lutheran 15, Cal Lutheran 9--Julie Nauman had 2 hits and 3 RBIs to lead Orange Lutheran (4-0) at Pepper Tree Park in Tustin

In a nonleague baseball game:

Pacific Shores 16, Elsinore Christian 2--Max Ramsey went 3 for 3 with a 3-run home run and 6 RBIs to lead Pacific Shores (1-1).
