Hoover 20, Glendale 14--Robert Clarizio intercepted a pass at the Hoover 40-yard line with 50 seconds to play to squelch Glendale’s final drive at Glendale.
Pathon Rucker threw a 40-yard halfback option pass to Axel Nielsen for a score to trim the deficit to 20-14 with 1:18 to play. On the ensuing kickoff, Max Ocon recovered Glendale’s onside kick, setting up the failed drive.
Hoover (1-9, 1-4) took a 20-7 lead early in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard touchdown run by Shawn Mays.
Glendale (4-6, 1-4), which was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, was held to 54 yards rushing. Erik Kiesau completed 14 of 25 for 142 yards and was intercepted four times. Ara Balkian led Hoover with 42 yards in 12 carries. Rucker, Glendale’s leading rusher, had 42 yards in 15 carries.
