WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Jordan Leads UNLV Past Long Beach
Center Pauline Jordan scored 31 points and had 12 rebounds to lead No. 8 Nevada Las Vegas to a 99-87 victory over No. 9 Cal State Long Beach in their Big West Conference opener Tuesday at Long Beach.
Trailing by two points with 14:58 to play, Las Vegas went on a 20-3 run for a 72-57 lead. Merlelynn Lange scored eight of the points. The 49ers didn’t get closer than seven points afterward.
Guard Dana Wilkerson scored 20 points for Long Beach (7-3), the defending Big West champion. She scored nine consecutive points early in the second half to give the 49ers a 54-52 lead.
UCLA 76, Pepperdine 63--The Bruins broke a four-game losing streak with a victory at Malibu.
Sophomore forward Elaine Youngs, playing in her second game of the season, came off the bench to score a career-high 24 points for the Bruins. Youngs just finished the season as a starter on the Bruins’ volleyball team.
UCLA evened its record at 5-5. Pepperdine is 6-2.
