NBA ROUNDUP : Warriors Can’t Stay With Bucks, 134-126

The Golden State defense, which was suspect even on a six-game winning streak, has collapsed completely on the road.

The Warriors, who gave up 144 points in a loss Monday at Indiana, were outscored Tuesday night at Milwaukee, 134-126, and fell to 2-14 away from home.

It was a night on which the Bucks honored Sidney Moncrief and retired his No. 4. Moncrief spent much of his 10-year career playing for Don Nelson, now the coach of the Warriors.

“He wasn’t the most talented player, but he was the best player I ever coached,” Nelson said.

Most of the rest of the night, Nelson was scowling as he watched his Warriors play matador defense.

Alvin Robertson, driving at will, had 37 points and 16 rebounds, his highest total ever, to lead the Bucks’ wide-open offense.

When the Warriors began this trip, they had a six-game winning streak, all of the victories coming at home. The streak was the result of sizzling offense. In the six games, the Warriors gave up at least 117 points in each game.

With Chris Mullin scoring 25 of his 39 points, the Warriors built a 65-61 halftime lead. But, when Mullin cooled off slightly, the Warriors fell behind.

Nelson started one of the smallest teams in NBA history. Rod Higgins, 6-7, was at center and the starters averaged under 6-5. The Warriors were outrebounded, 51-42.

Portland 120, Denver 115--The Nuggets overcame a 15-point third-quarter deficit at Portland and took the lead three times late in the game.

But Jerome Kersey and Buck Williams rallied the Trail Blazers for clutch points in the stretch. The Blazers trail the Lakers by 1 1/2 games in the Pacific Division.

Kersey’s free throw gave Portland a 113-112 lead, and Williams, who had 24 points, sank a layup to clinch the victory.

Sacramento 108, Atlanta 91--Wayman Tisdale and Harold Pressley each scored 21 points at Sacramento and the Kings ended a three-game losing streak.

Sacramento, manhandled by the Lakers Monday, handed the Hawks their sixth loss in a row on the road.
