PREP ROUNDUP : Betzsold Leads Mater Dei Past Bishop Amat

Jimmy Betzsold had a double, a home run and three runs batted in to lead Mater Dei High School to an 8-7 victory over Bishop Amat Saturday in an Angelus League baseball game at Bishop Amat.

Cale Carter had two hits and two RBIs and Keith Frankel had two hits and an RBI for Mater Dei (15-6, 7-3 in league), which totalled 15 hits.

Dave Gonzalez, Taylor Ivey and Doug DeJardin had two hits each for the Monarchs.

In another Angelus League baseball game:

Servite 14, Bishop Montgomery 4--Chad Rolish (4-0) had nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory for host Servite (16-5, 5-3). Whit Haydon had three hits and two RBIs and Bob Walker had two hits and two RBIs for Servite. Ed Crippen had two hits, an RBI and scored three runs for Servite, which had seven runs in the fourth.

In Academy League baseball:

Liberty Christian 8, St. Margaret’s 5--Chris Buckels (5-0) pitched a two-hitter, struck out 17 and walked two to lead Liberty Christian. Mark Baltodano had three hits, including two triples, and two RBIs to lead Liberty Christian (15-4, 7-0). Liberty Christian also had eight errors.

In the Thousand Oaks softball tournament:

Canyon 9, Rio Mesa 0--Karen Jacobs (5-0) thew a four-hitter to lead Canyon in a first-round game. Sanetha Thomas had a double, a triple and scored twice.

Newbury Park 4, Canyon 0--Senetha Thomas had two hits for Canyon (17-4) in its second-round game.
