Marian Catholic 10, Clairemont 7--Jose Iniguez went two for three, scored two runs and had two RBIs for Marian (6-13, 2-7).

City Central League

Madison 2, Crawford 1--Jason McElveny struck out eight and walked three as Madison (6-3, 11-9) upset seventh-ranked Crawford. Crawford pitcher Sal Vidrios struck out seven and walked one intentionally. McElveny, who went two for four, drove in the first run on a ground-rule double.

San Diego 13, Lincoln 7--San Diego (6-3, 14-7) moved within a game of Crawford and could pull into a tie for first Thursday when the teams play at Crawford. San Diego’s Josh Stepner went three for five, including a home run and a double, and drove in four runs against Lincoln (1-8, 6-14).

City Eastern League

Patrick Henry 6, Mira Mesa 3--With the victory, Patrick Henry (6-3, 12-11) pulled into a three-way tie for first with Mira Mesa (6-3, 17-4) and Point Loma. Johnny Dutra went two for three, including a home run, had four RBIs and scored a run. Teammate Luke Lowrey had a triple and a double and scored a run.

Point Loma 8, Morse 6--Point Loma (13-10, 7-2) came back from a 5-0 deficit by scoring six runs in the sixth. Point Loma got only four hits but was aided by 16 walks; seven Point Loma batters who were walked later scored. Morse (6-14, 1-7) got two hits each from Dwain Bostic and Manny Castillo.

City Western League

USDHS 2, Kearny 1--Fourth-ranked USDHS (18-4, 8-1) retained sole possession of first by defeating Kearny (9-13, 2-7) by one run for the third time this season. USDHS scored its two in the sixth. David Sanchez led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Tom Tate and scored on Gary Remiker’s single. Remiker moved to second on Doug Abts’ sacrifice and scored on Pete Muzzy’s single.

Mission Bay 6, University City 1--Mission Bay (11-8, 6-2) remained within a game of USDHS as pitcher Pat Betancourt struck out seven and allowed one unearned run. Tom Lafever had a double, single, two RBIs and scored a run for Mission Bay. University City is 6-15 and 1-8.

Metro Conference

Hilltop 5, Sweetwater 2--Sergio Guzman went four for four with two RBIs and scored a run for sixth-ranked Hilltop (16-5, 8-1). Jose Gallegos improved to 5-0.

Bonita Vista 12, Southwest 9--Bonita Vista (3-6, 9-12) got four singles and three walks to score seven runs in the sixth inning, erase a 7-3 deficit and upset Southwest (7-2, 9-11). Southwest, which started the day tied with Hilltop for first place, now is tied for second with Montgomery. Bonita Vista’s Gilbert Ortega went three for four with two RBIs and a run scored. Southwest is 7-2, 9-11.

Castle Park 9, Chula Vista 7--Chula Vista outhit visiting Castle Park 10-8, but committed five errors and walked seven. For the Trojans (14-10, 5-4), Jackie Sousa hit a double and a triple and teammates Francisco Palacios and David Cabral got two hits apiece. Donnie Edwards went three for four for Chula Vista (7-13, 2-7).

Montgomery 4, Mar Vista 0--Sophomore David Silvas pitched a four-hitter to improve to 6-1. Luis Contreras started the scoring with a two-run single in the third. He went two for two and stole three bases as Montgomery improved to 15-7, 7-2. Mar Vista is 3-19 and 0-9.

Coastal League

Francis Parker 8, Army-Navy 0--Charles Pope’s two-run single sparked a four-run first inning for Francis Parker (5-12, 3-5).

Julian 17, La Jolla Country Day 9--Damen Lopez hit a bases-loaded triple in the third for Julian (12-4, 6-1). Teammate Travis Denmark hit a two-run homer.

Nonleague

Hoover 12, La Jolla 10--Hoover (10-13) came back after La Jolla (13-8) scored seven in the first inning. Hoover’s Byron Limbrick went five for five, including a home run and two doubles, drove in three runs and scored five times.

Football

Mt. Carmel names coach--Doug Kamen, who coached six teams into the city playoffs in eight years in Los Angeles, was named head coach at Mt. Carmel.

Kamen is the school’s fourth coach in six years, replacing Bill Christopher, who left to begin the program at Rancho Bernardo.

Kamen, 38, has been a varsity assistant at Mt. Carmel since 1986. Previously, he was head coach at South Gate (1976-79), Van Nuys (1980-81) and Gardena (1984-85). The 1981 team won the 3-A section championship.
