Oscar Rueda kicked a 26-yard field goal with 1 minute 9 seconds to play, giving Anaheim High School a 16-14 nonleague victory over Cypress Thursday night at Western High.

The Colonists (1-3) had missed an opportunity to go ahead with 4:06 left when running back Robert Jones was stopped on a two-point conversion attempt after an eight-yard touchdown run by Che Garcia that had made the score 14-13. But linebacker Say Iemsisanith recovered a fumble by Cypress running back Bryan Dawson at the Centurion 24-yard line to set up the winning field goal.

Cypress (1-3) had taken a 14-7 lead on Dawson’s five-yard run with 9:19 to play. Dawson scored Cypress’ other touchdown on a one-yard run in the second quarter.

Cypress quarterback Gabe Garcia completed nine of 18 passes for 151 yards to lead the Centurions.
