BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Parks Out, Marina Outmatched

Marina High School, playing without injured standout Cherokee Parks, could not contain New York’s Archbishop Molloy and lost, 62-40, Saturday in a consolation game of the Beach Ball Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Molloy had won the tournament three consecutive years.

Parks, who sustained a sprained ankle in Friday’s 56-52 loss to Eau Claire of Columbia, S.C., will be out seven to 10 days.

In the Rancho Cordova tournament in Sacramento:

Trabuco Hills 93, Highlands 60--Brett Poulos scored 21 points, 18 of them on three-point shots, and Corey Klinke had 10 rebounds and 19 points to help Trabuco Hills (1-9) to its first victory of the season in the seventh-place game.

In the Kamehameha tournament:

Kamehameha 68, La Quinta 63--La Quinta showed the effects of a seven-hour delay at LAX and was outscored, 24-11, in the fourth quarter. Lloyd Bennett scored 25 points and Dusty DePree, Justin Sogoian and Li Riopelle each had 10 for La Quinta. In its second-round game, La Quinta defeated Honolulu Radford, 77-56.

In the Anaheim Canyon tournament:

Anaheim Canyon 75, Canyon del Oro 70--Abdi Barhordar had 18 points, Kevin Wilborn 17, Chuck Sanders 16 and Eric Oliver 11 for Canyon in the fifth-place game.

Santa Ana 83, Canyon Country Canyon 77--Santa Ana’s Chauncey Woolridge (37 points) and Ramon Yerena (27) helped hold off a late Canyon rally in the consolation championship game.

In the Mountain View St. Francis tournament:

University 80, Palo Alto 74--Josh Whelihan scored 22 points and Luis Venegas added 17 to lead University (5-7) to the victory in the consolation final.

In the Atascadero tournament:

Valencia 62, San Clemente 43--Valencia outscored San Clemente, 40-20, in the second half to win the title. Brian Manning had 12 points for Valencia (9-2). Eddie Morgan had 16 points and Morgan Bannister 12 for San Clemente.
