DIGEST : Burbank, Glendale Seniors to Match Up in Basketball

A basketball doubleheader featuring high school seniors from the Burbank and Glendale areas has been scheduled for tonight at Woodbury University in Burbank. The girls’ game will start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 8.

The Burbank area boys’ team is coached by Kurt Keller of Alemany. Tom Hofman of La Canada will coach the Glendale team. Chris Krohn of Burbank High will coach the Burbank area girls’ team, and the Glendale team will be coached by Shawn Evans of La Canada.

Jermaine Nixon, a three-year starter on the Canyon High basketball team, has made a commitment to Hawaii-Loa.

Nixon, a two-time All-Golden League first-team selection and the Cowboys’ all-time career scoring leader (1,083 points), averaged 19.4 points and 8.2 rebounds a game this season.

A forward in high school, Nixon is expected to play small forward and off-guard at Loa, a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics school on the island of Oahu.

The Sylmar Hang Gliding Assn. will play host to the Jeff Scott Challenge from April 27-30 at the Sylmar Flight Park.

The event will consist of a four-day pylon ridge race. Weather permitting, a distance-to-goal race from Sylmar to Palmdale might be held.

The Valley View Vaulters will play host to a competition in vaulting--in which gymnastic moves are performed on a moving horse--at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center in Lake View Terrace on April 6.

Competition will begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m.
