Senior Event Begins at Westlake Club

Westlake Tennis & Swim Club is playing host to a Southern California Tennis Assn. Senior Grand Prix tournament that began Wednesday and concludes Sunday.

The tournament is among several of its kind in Southern California that determine player rankings in the SCTA blue book. Several local players are seeded No. 1 in the tournament.

Woodland Hills’ Gene Malin is seeded No. 1 in the men’s 35 singles and men’s 45 singles. He also is seeded No. 1 in the 35 doubles with Larry Malin.

Other top-seeded players in the men’s division include Westlake Village’s Nisie Sie (45) and Canoga Park’s Tom Springer (55). Studio City’s Bill Rombeau and Steve Foster are seeded first in the 45 doubles. Springer and Westlake Village’s Jack Darrah are seeded No. 1 in 55 doubles.

Thousand Oaks’ Annette Burrows and Moorpark’s Cindy Pardee are seeded No. 1 in the women’s 35 doubles. Pardee and Jim Pardee are seeded first in the men’s 35/women’s 30 mixed doubles.

More than 100 players are expected to compete.
