Dunivant to Become Burroughs Assistant

Bob Dunivant’s fourth stint as football coach at Burroughs High lasted only one game after the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education on Thursday night voted to prohibit Dunivant from finishing the season as the Indians’ head coach.
The board, however, voted to allow Dunivant to remain as a volunteer assistant to Marty Garrison, a longtime Burroughs assistant coach and the school’s athletic director.
“I’m just glad to have this all behind me and to not have to worry about it anymore,” Dunivant said. “I’m just going to be offensive coordinator, and Marty and I are going to share a lot of the responsibilities.”
Dunivant, 56, a member of Burbank’s Board of Education since February, was chosen by Burroughs’ administrators to replace Butch McElwee last week after McElwee resigned for personal reasons. Dunivant wanted to be paid for coaching, but district rules prohibit a board member from being compensated for coaching at a member school.
Burroughs is a member of the Burbank district.
