Santiago 27, Bolsa Grande 9--Santiago scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to beat Bolsa Grande in the league opener for both teams at Garden Grove High School.
Minh Nguyen scored on a 24-yard run with less than eight minutes remaining to put Santiago (1-3, 1-0) ahead, 20-9. Scott McGarrh’s interception of a Brian Taylor pass and 73-yard return for a touchdown with 5:14 to play sealed the victory.
Bolsa Grande (1-3, 0-1) tied the score, 7-7, with six minutes left in the third quarter on a 44-yard run by Taylor, but that was the extent of the Matador offense.
