Azusa Pacific d. The Master’s College, 15-6, 15-10, 16-14--Brenda Bement had 12 kills in a losing effort for The Master’s (14-16) in a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 match at Azusa Pacific. Azusa Pacific (20-6) is ranked eighth in the NAIA.

Ventura d. Glendale, 15-7, 15-11, 15-6--Vanessa Hackett had nine kills, three stuff blocks and six aces to lead the host Pirates to their sixth consecutive Western State Conference victory.

Teammate Sandy Ford had five kills for Ventura (7-0, 6-0).

Pierce d. Canyons, 15-6, 15-5, 15-6--Olivia Balentyne had seven kills and eight digs to lead the Brahmas (4-3, 4-1) over the Cougars (1-5, 1-5) in a WSC match at Canyons. Stephanie Burns added five kills for the Brahmas.

MEN’S SOCCER

Mission 3, Moorpark 2--Armando Garcia scored two goals to lead the Free Spirit (3-4-1) past Moorpark in a WSC opener at Mission.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Valley 15, El Camino 8--Robert Brown scored a team-high four goals and Tim Fredricksen added three for Valley in a nonconference match at home.

Valley is 11-6-3.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Royal 20, Newbury Park 0--Royal hit Newbury Park with a depth charge in a Marmonte League opener.

Three players scored four goals or more to lead Royal to a rout at Newbury Park.

Jack Kocur and Mike Radka each scored five goals and Myles Bozinovski added four for the Highlanders (10-3).

Junior goalkeeper Ralph Radka, the brother of Mike, recorded Royal’s first shutout of the season and had six saves.

Harvard 14, Crespi 8--Ryan Salceda, Jim Toring and Mark Townsend each scored three goals in a San Fernando League opener at Crespi.

Harvard, ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section 3-A Division, improved to 13-1. The Saracens led, 14-3, in the fourth quarter before making mass substitutions.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Moorpark d. Oak Park, 15-13, 15-13, 15-11--Jessica Donalson and Nicole Funfar each had nine kills to lead host Moorpark in a Tri-Valley League opener at home. Moorpark, ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section 2-A Division, is 7-0.

Saugus d. Palmdale, 15-5, 15-5, 16-14--Lindsay Estes had 25 kills and Kezban Yagmur added 24 to lead host Saugus in a Golden League opener. Saugus is 2-4.

Alhambra d. Hart, 15-1, 15-9, 15-11--Shannon Martin had six kills for Hart in a Foothill League opener at Alhambra. Hart is 1-4.

Sylmar d. Birmingham, 7-15, 2-15, 15-9, 15-6, 15-11--Darla Smiley had 15 kills and Araceli Rodriguez had 13 for Sylmar (3-3, 1-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Birmingham. Tina Larson had 16 kills for Birmingham.

Poly d. Van Nuys, 12-15, 15-5, 15-13, 15-12--Maria Avalos had a team-high 16 kills to lead Poly in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys. Carmel McLurkin had 15 kills and Tami O’Dell added 13 kills for Poly (6-0, 3-0). Van Nuys is 2-1 in conference play.

La Reina d. St. Bonaventure, 15-3, 15-1, 15-8--Amy Crotty had 10 kills and Christi Potts added five to lead the visiting Regents (5-1), ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section 2-A Division, in a Tri-Valley League opener against the Seraphs (6-1).
