Southwest 55, Mar Vista 6--Southwest (2-3, 1-1) scored the first four times it had the ball and Riley Washington rushed 13 times for 201 yards to become the school’s all-time leading rusher with 2,031, surpassing Vernon Williams’ 1,842. Washington had scoring runs of 67 and 47 yards. Dewayne McBride carried five times for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Danny Lim also scored twice. Orell Davis had a 93-yard kickoff return for Mar Vista (2-2, 1-1).

Avocado League

El Camino 43, Carlsbad 0--Second-ranked El Camino (4-1, 2-0) outgained Carlsbad (2-3, 0-2), 361-11. Seven different players scored for El Camino, including Brandon Vesper, who rushed 10 times for 117 yards and a 65-yard score, and Mike Flanagan. Noel Prefontaine passed for two touchdowns and kicked a field goal. Carlsbad had minus-39 yards rushing.

San Pasqual 42, Ramona 17--It took a quarter for the Eagles to get going, but they unloaded on Ramona for 28 consecutive points behind quarterback Billy Geddes to pull away for their first league victory. After Ramona built a 10-0 lead, Geddes got things started with a 96-yard scoring pass to running back DeSale Wallace, who later added a rushing touchdown. Geddes, who scored twice, finished with 91 yards rushing and 151 yards on six-for-12 passing. Daryl Hawkins added 145 rushing yards, including a 63-yard touchdown. The Eagles improved to 3-2, 1-1. Ramona fell to 0-5, 0-2.

Escondido 26, Rancho Bernardo 24--With 2:30 remaining, Escondido’s Garland Copeland completed a 90-yard touchdown pass to Mike Frank for the winning touchdown. For Escondido (2-3, 1-1), Lance Lawton rushed 26 times for 119 yards, including TD carries of two, eight and one yards. Kevin Kaufman kicked a 32-yard field goal for Rancho Bernardo (3-2, 1-1) and threw two touchdown passes.

Palomar League

Vista 14, Mt. Carmel 7--Mt. Carmel (0-5, 0-2) took a 7-0 halftime lead on John Moon’s one-yard run, but Vista (5-0, 2-0) stormed back in the second half. Nestor Mangohig recovered a punt that was snapped over the Mt. Carmel punter’s head in the end zone, and Chato Jackson (23 rushes, 105 yards) scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter.

Torrey Pines 18, Fallbrook 13--Mike Fouts passed for three touchdowns to lead Torrey Pines (4-1, 2-0) over No. 10 Fallbrook (3-2, 1-1). Fouts passed twice for scores to Matt Tranchina (23 and 39 yards), and his fourth-quarter scoring aerial to John Allred wiped out a 13-12 deficit. Fallbrook’s John Dutton had TD passes of 60 and 39 yards to Travis Case.

Nonleague

Point Loma 22, Lincoln 7--LaRoi Glover led a Pointers’ defense that held Lincoln (2-3) to one rushing yard and three passing yards in the second half. Glover finished with four sacks and 10 tackles.

After being shut out in its opener, the Pointers (4-1) have won four in a row. Alex Gresham led the Pointers in rushing with 137 yards on 14 carries, including touchdown runs of seven and 86 yards. Shaunta Baker carried only four times, but for 106 yards.

Kearny 14, Clairemont 6--Kearny, off to a 5-0 start for the second consecutive year, became the first school in the county with five victories, winning an afternoon game at Clairemont, which fell to 1-4. James Curtis, who was leading the county in scoring, got his 13th touchdown in the first quarter on a 44-yard run. Clairemont’s John Price hit Alfredo Tinoco with a 41-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter.

USDHS 35, Serra 0--Chris Lewis rushed 12 times for 143 yards in a little less than three quarters as No. 6 USDHS (5-0) routed Serra (3-2) at USD. Lewis didn’t score, but he had a 48-yard run that set up Chris Madeiros’ four-yard touchdown. Chris Mattix rushed for 69 yards in nine carries, including touchdown runs of seven and 12 yards. USDHS had 278 yards on the ground. Four turnovers hurt the Conquistadors, who managed only four first downs.

La Jolla 42, Madison 6--E.J. Watson, second in the county in rushing yards, had 234 yards on 16 carries, including touchdowns runs 74, 23 and 61 yards as No. 7 La Jolla routed Madison. Alex Brown and John Zuanich also scored for the Vikings, the third City Western League team to improve to 5-0. Richard Parker and quarterback Sean Favreau teamed for Madison’s score, a 12-yard pass.

Holtville 41, Marian 3--Mario Lizarraga scored on runs of 48, one and 39 yards to lead Holtville (4-1) over Marian, which managed only a 45-yard field goal by Tony Wright.

Coronado 17, Laguna Beach 14--Coronado quarter Chris Bright rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown and threw for another to lead Coronado (4-1) to victory at Laguna Beach (2-3). Bright hit Brian Smock on a 17-yard scoring pass to give the Islanders a 7-0 lead. Bright then capped off the night with an 11-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run to give Coronado the come-from-behind victory. Trig Garner threw for 194 yards for Laguna Beach.

Helix 40, Santana 0--Helix (3-1-1) continued its domination over Santana (2-3). Chris Baker, playing his first game after a broken finger kept him out, caught three touchdown passes and gained 172 all-purpose yards, 111 of them on seven rushing carries. Helix quarterback Gregg Wilbur threw for 163 yards, completing 11 of 20 passes.

Mission Bay 27, Hoover 8--Andy Guyader hit Neil Berkley (four catches, 66 yards) for touchdown passes of 16 and 20 yards to lead Mission Bay (2-2). Guyader was eight for 16 for 131 yards. Sunny Miller rushed 15 times for 116 yards, including scoring runs of five and two yards. Jaime Blake ran 20 times for 142 yards, including a one-yard TD. Hoover dropped to 1-4.

Mira Mesa 35, Elsinore 12--Chad Davis continued to chip away at the all-time high school passing record with a 12-for-19, 176-yard passing performance, which included three touchdowns and an interception. David Lynch scored on a three-yard run for the Marauders (4-1), and D.J. Raiford scored on a 37-yard fumble recovery. Elsinore fell to 1-4.

Valhalla 19, Monte Vista 7--Valhalla (3-2) scored an emotional victory the night after one of its players, Marcus Beeson, was killed in a one-car accident.

Rob Reid kicked field goals of 40 and 47 yards and passed four yards to David Jackel for a touchdown. Keith Price added a 23-yard scoring run. Monte Vista (3-2) got a 68-yard touchdown
