Coronado 17, Laguna Beach 14--Coronado won the battle of fourth-quarter rallies and spoiled homecoming for Laguna Beach at Guyer Field.

With less than two minutes left, a pass from Artist quarterback Trigg Garner in the direction of his favorite receiver, Eric Fegraus, was intercepted by junior defensive back Travis Powell at midfield and returned 39 yards to the Laguna 11. A play later, Coronado senior quarterback Chris Bright ran into the end zone for the winning touchdown with 1:21 to play.

Earlier in the quarter, Laguna Beach appeared to have the game in hand after staging a rally of its own. With 6:26 left, Garner and Fegraus hooked up on a 51-yard scoring pass, and senior running back Keith Peery added a two-point conversion to put the Artists up, 14-10.

After the kickoff, the Laguna Beach defense stiffened. A four-yard sack by senior defensive end Aaron Johnson and two incomplete passes allowed Laguna Beach to take over from the Islanders on downs at the Laguna Beach 12. But after driving to their own 45, the Artists, on third and 14, attempted the pass that was picked off.
