At the Manhattan Invitational in New York City:
Laguna Hills First--The Hawks won the boys’ and girls’ championships over a 2.5-mile course.
The boys scored 88 points to defeat Archbishop Wood, No. 1-ranked in Pennsylvania and No. 15 in the country, by a point.
Laguna Hills’ Chris Lynch was the individual winner in 13:02. Dave Burnette (13:33) was fifth.
The Hawk girls scored 87 points, six points ahead of second. Myra Medina was seventh with a time of 16:38. Heather McGlone was one second behind in eighth.
At the Brea-Olinda Invitational:
Santiago Boys Second--Santiago’s boys finished second with a team time of 92:44, behind Upland’s 88:47. Anaheim’s Oscar Malo had the day’s best time, 16:42 for the 3.1-mile course.
At the Oceanside Invitational:
Canyon Runner-Up--With a combined time of 121:43, the Canyon girls finished second, 1:54 behind La Jolla. Canyon’s Kim Nelson placed sixth in the No. 1 race with a time of 15:39 for 2.5 miles.
