Injuries Continue to Plague CSUN Football Team

Jason Gudzunas, a backup linebacker at Cal State Northridge, suffered a sprained left knee in practice Wednesday and is questionable for Saturday’s Western Football Conference football opener against Santa Clara.

In other developments Wednesday, tight end George Fua, a senior from San Mateo High, has been moved to left guard to bolster an offensive line plagued by injuries. Fua (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) will replace Jack Montes, who is still slowed by knee and hamstring injuries.

Don Martin, a senior from Dorsey High, will start at tight end in Fua’s place.

Meanwhile, fullback Anthony Nicholson continues to be slowed by a chronic ankle sprain that has kept him out of one game and limited him to just a few plays in several others.

Royal High senior quarterback Ryan Fien said he will travel to Notre Dame on Dec. 16 for an official NCAA recruiting visit.

Fien, who has led Royal to a 5-0 start and No. 2 ranking in the Southern Section Division II football poll this fall, has passed for 3,620 yards in a little more than two seasons.

Fien said he also will visit UCLA and Texas but that he has not yet determined dates for those visits.

Fien (6-4, 200 pounds) has completed 57 of 95 passes for 798 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. Only one pass has been intercepted.

In his career, Fien is 263 for 498 (53%) with 38 touchdowns.
