Glendale 34, Crescenta Valley 0--Nathan Callister completed 10 of 14 passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns while Pathon Rucker rushed for 157 yards in 18 carries to lead host Glendale (5-1) in a Pacific League opener.

Quartz Hill 14, Canyon Country Canyon 13--Mike Torres scored from a yard out with four seconds left to cap a 74-yard drive and bring Canyon within 14-13, but a bad snap on the point-after-attempt cost the Cowboys a tie in a Golden League opener at Quartz Hill.

Erik Thomas, who gained 182 yards in 11 carries, scored his second touchdown on a 63-yard run to give Quartz Hill (4-2) a 14-7 lead with 5:14 left. The loss was only the third in 10 years in Golden League play for Canyon (3-2-1).

Irvine 16, Mission Viejo 13--Jason Minici threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter and Dave Bilek kicked a 46-yard field goal to lead Irvine (5-1) to its first victory over Mission Viejo in 11 years.

Mission Viejo running back Deron Drake fumbled on the game’s first play. Irvine’s Ryan Patterson recovered, and four plays later, Minici connected with Anthony Ramirez on a four-yard scoring pass.

San Fernando 35, Granada Hills 14--LaKarlos Townsend scored three touchdowns and Brian Brison added two to give San Fernando its first victory at Granada Hills since 1972.

Townsend rushed for 157 yards in 17 carries and scored on runs of seven, 60 and 23 yards in the West Valley League game. This is the Tigers’ best start (6-0, 3-0) since the team opened at 10-0 in 1978.

Fairfax 25, University 6--Quarterback Rahim Muhammad rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another before leaving the game with a sore shoulder in the second quarter in a City Coastal Conference contest at Fairfax.

Locke 51, Fremont 6--Locke won its fifth consecutive game in a City Southeastern Conference game at Locke. The 10th-ranked Saints (5-1, 5-0) led 39-0 at halftime and 45-0 in the fourth quarter. Locke gained 392 yards. Running back Nelson James gained 80 yards in 12 carries and scored on touchdown runs of two and one yards for Locke. Fremont dropped to 1-4 and 1-5.

* Lawrence Lanham of La Puente Nogales rushed for 156 yards in 20 carries, with two touchdowns, as the Nobles swept past Sierra League rival Hacienda Heights Wilson, 35-12.

* Tony Alvarez, with 131 yards rushing, and Adrian Eppinger, with 103, led Glenn to a 24-13 Suburban League victory over Mayfair.

* David Gallis of Covina Northview completed 18 of 31 for 214 yards and rushed for 85 yards as the Vikings defeated Covina South Hills, 34-20, in a Valle Vista League game.

* Thyya Ung of Paramount ran for 261 yards in 23 carries as Paramount beat Gahr, 20-0, in San Gabriel Valley League action.
