Mike Way rushed for just one yard in the first half, but he broke free in the second for 53 yards and two touchdowns to lead Pacifica High to a 21-10 victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League game in front of 1,100 Friday at Bolsa Grande High.

Pacifica (4-2, 2-1) led, 7-3, at halftime after Mariner quarterback Don Murray threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Eric Stevens in the first quarter and La Quinta’s David Matlock hit a 29-yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the first half.

Way’s third carry resulted in a four-yard touchdown run with 2:20 left in the third quarter. La Quinta was stopped on its next possession, but Matlock’s punt was blocked. Pacifica center Aaron Bremer recovered the ball and the Mariners took over on La Quinta’s 39-yard line.
