Fullerton Rallies Past El Camino

El Camino College could not contain Fullerton College’s explosive rushing offense and lost to the Hornets, 33-26, in a Mission Conference football game Saturday night at Murdock Stadium.

Fullerton (4-1 overall, 3-1 in league play) was led by tailback Brian Williams, who rushed 15 times for 195 yards.

El Camino (3-3, 2-2) had a 16-6 halftime lead, but could not hold off Fullerton’s charge in the second half.

The Warriors scored the only touchdown of the first half. With the score tied, 6-6, quarterback Rod Anderson scored on a five-yard run to finish a nine-play, 83-yard drive to put El Camino ahead, 13-6, with 8:19 left in the second quarter.

Tom Dallen’s 29-yard field goal with 36 seconds left before halftime put El Camino ahead, 16-6. Dallen also made field goals of 32 and 41 yards in the first half.

Fullerton’s only points in the first half came on field goals of 21 and 30 yards by Scott Szeredy.

The Hornets scored their first touchdown with 12:36 left in the third quarter. Linebacker Corey Manliguis intercepted an Anderson pass and returned it nine yards for a score.

Dallen give El Camino a 19-13 lead with his fourth field goal--a 36-yarder--with 7:50 left in the third quarter, but Fullerton tied the score, 19-19, on Jarrod Smith’s 95-yard touchdown return.

Dallen missed two field goals in the fourth quarter and Fullerton took advantage by scoring two touchdowns for a 33-19 lead.

Warrior freshman quarterback Jerry Singleton replaced Anderson and threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Boykins with 29 seconds left to play to complete the scoring.

Anderson completed nine of 25 passes for 186 yards and two interceptions and fullback Eric Gamble gained 61 yards in 10 carries. Wide receiver Latario Rachal caught four passes for 111 yards.
