Tustin Edges University to Extend Streak

TUSTIN — Tustin ran its regular-season winning streak to 17 games with a 12-6 Sea View League victory over University High Friday at Northrup Field.
The Tillers (7-0, 2-0) have won 20 of their past 21 games.
Senior Maurice Fletcher scored a touchdown, and sophomore Zack Matthews kicked a pair of field goals to lead the Tillers, the No. 4 team in the county and top-ranked team in Division VI.
Matthews’ 37-yard field goal with 11 minutes 49 seconds remaining in the first half gave Tustin a 3-0 lead.
Fletcher’s touchdown came on the final play of the half when he caught quarterback Jon Miller’s 32-yard pass for a 9-0 Tustin lead.
University (4-3, 1-1) cut Tustin’s lead to 9-6 when Todd Anderson scored on a one-yard run with 4:43 remaining in the third quarter.
Matthews kicked a 42-yard field goal with 9:24 remaining, giving the Tillers their final margin of victory.
Tustin finished with 207 yards total offense but was hurt with 110 yards in penalties, marking the third time this season it has been penalized for more than 100 yards.
Miller completed eight of 13 passes for 101 yards and one touchdown.
University managed 113 yards in offense.
