Jackson Clark, son of Saugus High basketball Coach John Clark and a member of the Centurions’ 1987 Southern Section 3-A Division championship team, died Friday night after a three-month battle with intestinal cancer. He was 22.
Clark died at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Panorama City where he had been hospitalized for at least the past month, according to Saugus Athletic Director Randy Parker. Clark, a 1987 Saugus graduate, had been attending UC Santa Barbara until he became ill over the summer, Parker said.
As a guard-forward for Saugus during his senior year, Clark played a major role in the team’s improbable rise from wild-card entry to section champion and a berth in the state playoffs. John Clark was selected The Times’ Valley coach of the year that season.
Funeral arrangements are pending. A memorial scholarship fund in Clark’s name will be established at Saugus High, Parker said.
