Share

Running back Jamal Anderson scored three touchdowns and the Moorpark College defense held host Compton to 141 yards as the Raiders scored a 37-0 Western State Conference Northern Division victory Saturday.

“We were pretty much having fun,” said Anderson, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound sophomore who rushed for 161 yards in 17 carries--his third consecutive 100-plus-yard game. “Compton played us tough, but they were undermanned.”

The host Tartars, who turned the ball over six times, dropped to 0-6, 0-5 in conference play. Compton went 0-10 in 1990.

The tone was set on the first play from scrimmage when Moorpark defensive back Kenyon Lewis picked off a pass by Enrique Arnero.

Moorpark (5-1, 4-1) took over on its 46 and marched toward the end zone on five running plays. Anderson scored from 11 yards.

Three Compton plays and a punt later, the Raiders embarked on a casual 10-play, 72-yard scoring drive. Anderson scored on a two-yard run to make it 14-0.

Moorpark quarterback Corey Tucker, a 6-foot, 175-pound freshman from Camarillo High, completed 14 of 23 passes for 213 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Curtis Marsh, a 6-3, 205-pound sophomore receiver, caught seven passes for 109 yards.

After Raider kicker Brian Balleweg booted a 27-yard field goal to complete the first-quarter scoring, Anderson made it 23-0 with a 24-yard jaunt with four minutes remaining in the half.

The Raider defense, led by Robert Moose (two sacks and a fumble recovery), Ken Haefliger (sack, fumble recovery) and Lewis held Compton to 11 yards rushing.

Compton’s best scoring opportunity evaporated midway through the second quarter when quarterback Sharhron Wynne (eight of 24 for 130 yards) fumbled at the Moorpark 13 and the Raiders’ David Autrey recovered.

Moorpark also scored when Tucker and Mark Henrie hooked up for a 28-yard touchdown pass play in the third quarter, and Ryan Marine (nine carries, 57 yards) scored on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter.
