Nigel Bostic, a running back at Valley College, is expected to miss Saturday night’s Western State Conference game against West L. A.

Bostic, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound sophomore from New York, was taken off the field by stretcher during the fourth quarter of last week’s game against L. A. Southwest when he experienced shortness of breath and a racing heartbeat after being tackled.

Bostic has been at the Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood since Saturday for observation and testing.

He is expected to be released today.

“I’ve talked to him and he seems to be doing fine,” Valley Coach Jim Fenwick said of Bostic. “He wants to get out of there, but you’ve got to take precautionary measures with something like this.”

Bostic is Valley’s second-leading rusher this season with 436 yards in 60 carries (7.3 yards a carry).

The bench-clearing brawl that halted a Mid-Valley League football game between Canoga Park and Van Nuys highs on Friday night is being investigated by L.A. City Section Commissioner Hal Harkness.

Officials halted the contest with 3 minutes 3 seconds remaining when several fights broke out on the field and order could not be restored.

No players were ejected from the game. The Times erroneously reported in Saturday’s edition that Van Nuys quarterback Bill Calhoun was ejected from the game.

Tickets for Friday night’s Marmonte League showdown between Thousand Oaks and Royal went on sale Tuesday at Royal High.

The Lancers have won four consecutive league titles and five of the past six. The Highlanders have never won a Marmonte League title and are ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division II poll.

A capacity crowd of more than 7,000 is expected at Moorpark College for the 7:30 p.m. game. Tickets will be on sale at Royal from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday. Sales end Friday at 12:30 p.m.

“The prices will be the same at the gate Friday, but we’re doing this only for convenience so people don’t have to wait in huge lines at the game,” Royal Athletic Director Terry Dobbins said.

Cal State Northridge linebacker Ken Vaughn set a record for solo tackles in a season during Saturday’s 56-28 loss to Southern Utah. Vaughn made 11 solo tackles for a total of 62, surpassing Reggie Wauls’ 1985 mark of 58.

Northridge guard James Morris is hampered by a groin pull and is questionable for Friday’s exhibition basketball game against the University of Victoria at 7 p.m. in Matador Gymnasium.
