BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Mets’ Gooden Throws 49 Pitches
Dwight Gooden, pitching in a full exhibition for the first time since having rotator cuff surgery in September, gave up five runs and three hits in 2 1/3 innings as the New York Mets beat the Houston Astros, 10-5, in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Gooden threw 49 pitches, walked four and struck out one. He pitched three hitless innings against the Dodgers during a “B” game Sunday.
First baseman Carlos Quintana will sit out at least the first half of the season while his broken left arm heals, the Boston Red Sox said.
