HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : North Hollywood Forfeits After Olmos Is Injured

North Hollywood High’s baseball team forfeited an East Valley League game to Sylmar on Tuesday after Husky Ignacio Olmos took a line-drive foul ball in the mouth while seated on the team bench at Sylmar.

With one out in the fourth inning, North Hollywood’s Rene Avelar fouled a pitch at Olmos, who was seated about 15 feet away. Olmos, who sustained severe damage to his teeth and mouth, was knocked unconscious for about a minute and was taken by ambulance to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.

North Hollywood Coach Rick Pally opted to stop play at that point. Sylmar was leading, 9-0, and was declared the winner, pending verification today from the City Section office.

The injury shook up several North Hollywood players and the Huskies were unable to continue the game, Pally said. “(Olmos) is probably the greatest kid on the team,” Pally said. “There is not a finer young man out there.”
