Jim Toring of Simi Valley scored a goal in a losing effort as the U.S. Men’s Junior Water Polo team failed to advance to the medal round Friday in the World Championships in Cairo, Egypt. The United States lost to Spain, 7-3.

The United States will compete for fifth place along with Romania, Germany and Australia.

Cross-Country

Brian Godsey of Cal State Northridge, the Matadors’ No. 2 cross-country runner as a sophomore in 1992, will redshirt the 1993-94 cross-country and track seasons.

Northridge Coach Don Strametz said that redshirting Godsey will give the 1991 Taft High graduate a year to mature physically before returning for his junior season.
