OUTLOOK

Tivenan begins his first season with the Golden Hawks after seven successful seasons at El Modena. He was 100-76 and won four league titles with the Vanguards. He has a chore in front of him. The Golden Hawks return no starters, they have little size and minimum quickness. Not exactly traits of a title contender. But much the same could have been said about El Modena when Tivenan took that job. The Golden Hawks do have good shooters in Moore and Spencer. They give Tivenan two solid players who played a lot as reserves last season. It will be Moore and Spencer the Golden Hawks look to, but it will be the rest of the team that determines how successful a season it will be. Everyone else is untested. The Golden Hawks were also competitive during the summer. What that means is to be seen. A few league coaches have picked the Golden Hawks to finish third. To do that, they will need to make tremendous improvements during their nonleague schedule. Making the playoffs would be a huge step, but one that’s probably at least a year away. It took Tivenan two years to put El Modena in the playoffs against Century League opponents. It may not happen that quickly at El Dorado.
