VALLEY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Thousand Oaks’ Free Throws Sink Hart, 47-37

Strong free throw shooting led Thousand Oaks High to a 47-37 upset of Hart Saturday night in a second-round Division I-A game at Thousand Oaks.

Alissa Corey and Sara Samimi each scored 10 points for the Lancers (20-7), who made 16 of 29 free throws. Hart, the Foothill League champion, made only three of 13.

Buena 72, Downey 21--Mikko Giordano scored 22 points and the Bulldogs (21-2) outscored Downey, 25-3, in the third quarter of a Division I-A game at Buena.

Quartz Hill 62, Rialto 48--Freshman center Jackie Johnson had 26 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Rebels (19-4) in Division I-A.

Cerritos 55, Channel Islands 53--The Raiders were eliminated in the Division I-A playoffs.

Crescenta Valley 48, Rosemead 21--Sarah Hagman had 20 points and Stephanie Labor added 14 assists to lead the Falcons (20-5) in a Division II-AA game.

Burroughs 49, West Torrance 35--Gina Punaro scored 14 points to help Burroughs (18-5) beat West Torrance (16-10) in a Division II-A game.

Newbury Park 42, Morningside 32--Kara McKeown had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Panthers in a Division III-AA victory.

Bell-Jeff 74, St. Bonaventure 29--Christina Picsay scored 43 points to lead the Guards in a Division IV-A game.

Whittier Christian 52, Oak Park 46--The Eagles missed four free throws in the final 25 seconds of a Division IV-A game. Gina Cusano had 17 points for Oak Park (18-7).

Village Christian 85, Paraclete 53--Lindy James had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Trisha Palmquist had 21 points and six steals for Village Christian (23-1) in a Division IV-A game.

Nordhoff 48, Notre Dame 36--Rachel McSorley had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Rangers (21-4) in a Division III--AA game.
