OUTLOOK
McClurg comes to Calvary Chapel after being an assistant coach at Huntington Beach, and he isa little unsure of how his team will respond this season. McClurg would like his team to compete at a Sunset League level, but that is probably a few years off, and McClurg doesn’t have any unrealistic goals this season. The Eagles’ biggest blow comes from the graduation of Blythe Linsey, the county’s third-leading scorer who averaged 24 points last season and was fifth in rebounding with an average of 14 per game. Last season’s team revolved around 6-foot-5 Linsey and the inside game. This season, McClurg will go with a motion offense that will involve the entire team. With no go-to player, McClurg wants everyone involved in order to open up some options. Perez will start at center, along with Roberts, who joins the team for her first year of basketball. A volleyball player, her height will help fill in for the loss of Linsey. McClurg hopes for a lot of scoring from Bellsky, who returns after sitting out most of last season after hurting her ankle.
