ROUNDUP : Alemany Girls Stay Unbeaten

Alemany High overcame a three-point halftime deficit to defeat Newbury Park, 44-33, in a semifinal game of the Buena High girls’ basketball tournament.

Carly Funicello scored 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to help put the Indians (3-0), ranked second in the state, into tonight’s championship game against Buena. Funicello also had 16 rebounds. Kelly McKay added 12 points for Alemany.

Jann Thorpe scored 10 points for Newbury Park (5-1), the state’s 10th-ranked team.

In other Buena tournament games:

Buena 50, Hart 29--Nicole Greathouse scored 13 points and Eboni Conley added 10 as the Bulldogs (2-0) won the other semifinal. Jaclyn Kuptz scored 10 points for Hart (2-1), which did not score a field goal in the first half.

Ventura 47, Santa Clara 28--Kristen Franklin had 11 points, eight rebounds and eight steals to lead the Cougars (1-1) in a consolation semifinal.

Chatsworth 47, East Bakersfield 43--Nancy Vincent scored 12 points to lead the Chancellors (2-2) in the other consolation semifinal.
