ORANGE LUTHERAN--Was picked to finish last in the Olympic League. It has exceeded those expectations. It was co-champion with Cerritos Valley Christian (the first league championship in school history), and has reached its first title game. For much of the year, the Lancers have relied on a multifaceted offensive scheme that swings from the shotgun to the option, and has allowed them to average 31 points per game. In the last two playoff contests against Phelan Serrano and San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea, the Lancers relied on defense. They got a fumble recovery against the Diamondbacks to win, 22-19, and stopped a two-point conversion attempt by the Stars in a 7-6 overtime victory in the semifinals. Orange Lutheran again looks to their big three--senior quarterback Joe Juliano (1,455 yards passing, 950 yards rushing), junior running back Che Holloway (1,139 yards rushing, 19 touchdowns) and sophomore receiver Michael Crawford (29 receptions, 502 yards, six touchdowns) to bring home the trophy.

MONTCLAIR PREP--Big. Fast. Talented. Here are six more applicable words: It doesn’t belong in this division. But it is here nonetheless, with an excellent shot at winning its second Division X title in four years. The team name is Mounties but it should be Raiders, as this is a team Al Davis would love. Montclair Prep is plastered with an outlaw image--it does not have a league affiliation and plays to intimidate. What the Mounties do best on offense is run. Junior Akil Anderson has 1,432 yards and 14 touchdowns, but 871 yards and eight touchdowns have come in the past three playoff games. In the 50-8 rout of Big Bear two weeks ago, Anderson ran for 418 yards, tying the state single-game record set by Agoura’s Darrin Rogers in 1985. He also scored four times.

KEY TO THE GAME--Defense. Orange Lutheran, whose unit has been dwarfed in nearly every game this season, cannot allow the Mounties to run. Montclair must control Juliano.

CONSENSUS--Orange Lutheran might be “The Little Engine That Could,” but Montclair Prep is the big machine that can. Mounties, 28-14.
