ROUNDUP : Laguna Hills, El Toro Play to a Tie in Girls’ Soccer

Share

Laguna Hills and El Toro each played one half of uninspired soccer in a 1-1 tie Tuesday at Laguna Hills.

The Chargers dominated the Hawks, who could not produce any offense in the first half.

El Toro (3-3-3) kept the ball in Hawk territory for most of the first half. Thirty-six minutes into the game, senior Mandy Lashmett got the ball in front of the net and put it in the corner over goalkeeper Deborah Mundis’ head.

In the second half, the tables turned as Laguna Hills (3-3-2) took control on offense. The Hawks allowed the Chargers only three shots and attempted nine on El Toro freshman goalkeeper Melody Derloshon.

Derloshon, who finished with four saves in one half, made two impressive diving saves before Laguna Hills forward Ashley Olivieri took a crossing pass from junior Carrie Geyer in front of the net and slammed it out Derloshon’s reach with 25 minutes left to play.
