Hawkins Spearheads All-Division IX Team : High school football: Nordhoff back named segment’s player of year after rushing for region-high 2,454 yards.

Nordhoff High running back Josh Hawkins, who rushed for a region-high 2,454 yards, has been named the Southern Section Division IX player of the year.

Hawkins, who scored 36 touchdowns and led the Rangers to the Division IX final, is one of nine area players named to the Division IX team.

Nine others were selected for the Division X team.

The Division IX selections include senior running back Bryan Wilkins and senior linebacker Mike Lilienthal of Moorpark, senior offensive lineman Hersh Davis-Nitzberg and senior defensive back Kadar Lewis of Harvard-Westlake, senior defensive back Ryan Johnson and senior linebacker Brian McMullen of Oak Park, and senior offensive lineman David Colker and sophomore linebacker Russell Farrar of Nordhoff.

In Division X, Orange Lutheran quarterback Joe Juliano edged Montclair Prep quarterback-defensive back Darrell Dent and running back Akil Anderson for player-of-the-year honors.

Montclair Prep beat Orange Lutheran, 53-13, in the title game.

Area players named to the Division X team include Dent, Anderson and senior offensive lineman Langston Woodberry of Montclair Prep.

Also named were senior running back Mario Qualls and defensive lineman Garveia Freeney of Kilpatrick, sophomore wide receiver Jesse Loa and senior offensive lineman Matt Phelan of Paraclete, and senior kicker Ignacio Brache and senior defensive lineman Brett McCleod of Village Christian.
