Ending the grueling elimination process in high school wrestling, the 1994-95 season ends with the State championships today and Saturday in Stockton.
Of the thousands of Southern Section wrestlers who started the season in November, only 104 will compete at the University of Pacific’s Spanos Center.
Defending champion Santa Ana Calvary Chapel, after qualifying seven wrestlers in last week’s Southern Section Masters’ Meet, is the favorite to win its third consecutive title.
Calvary Chapel’s Josh Holiday, at 152 pounds, and Ed Mosley, at 160, are back to defend their individual titles.
Other Southland schools expected to do well include Moreno Valley Canyon Springs, which was runner-up to Calvary Chapel last year, Norwalk Glenn and Temecula Valley.
Individually, Eric Guerrero of Independence, at 135 pounds, will try to become the fifth wrestler in state history to win three titles.
