ROUNDUP : Sunny Hills Tops Fullerton in Tennis

Joseph Gilbert, John Hang and Chris Chung all swept in singles as second-ranked Sunny Hills beat Fullerton, 16-2, in a Freeway League boys’ tennis match Tuesday at Sunny Hills.

Gilbert won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, Hang won, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, and Chung won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Sunny Hills (7-0, 1-0 in league).

In Century League tennis:

Foothill 13, El Modena 5--In doubles, Rob Claus and Lance Stern won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, and Dan Greenwood and Matt Franklin won, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3, for No. 6 Foothill (9-1, 2-0).

Villa Park 15, Orange 3--The fourth-ranked Spartans (10-0, 1-0) were led by Ryan Hollis and Chad Smith, who did not lose a game in their singles sets. Hollis, a senior, is undefeated this season.

In Pacific Coast League tennis:

University 11, Laguna Beach 7--Kai Miller and Raja Kapadia teamed to sweep, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1, in the victory for eighth-ranked University (7-2, 2-0).

In Sea View League tennis:

Corona del Mar 13, El Toro 5--John Cappello swept at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3, to lead Corona del Mar (5-3, 1-0).

In South Coast League tennis:

Capistrano Valley 11, Trabuco Hills 7--Ken and Mat Harrison swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1, for Capistrano Valley (3-5, 1-0).

Dana Hills 14, Mater Dei 4--Brandon Fallon cruised at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, as Dana Hills (8-0-1, 1-0) remained undefeated.

Mission Viejo 16, San Clemente 2--Seventh-ranked Mission Viejo (6-3, 1-0) was led in its league opener by Josh Fair, who swept at singles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0.

In Orange League golf:

Valencia 187, Magnolia 230--James Wooley and Chris Porter both shot a par 35 at Dad Miller for Valencia (8-1, 1-0).

Brea Olinda 216, Savanna 227--Emerson Oh shot a four-over 40 at Imperial for Brea (7-2, 2-0).

In the Sea View League:

El Toro 207, Irvine 228--Jesse Hayden shot a three-over 39 and Sean Taeger shot a 40 for El Toro (6-3, 2-0) at El Toro Marine Base.

In Sunset League golf:

Huntington Beach 209, Fountain Valley 214--Perry Dickey shot par 36 for Huntington Beach (2-1, 1-0) at Mile Square.

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 204, Capistrano Valley 208--Jason Gross was the medalist with a 37 at Pacific for San Clemente (6-0, 1-0).

Trabuco Hills 291, Mater Dei 297 (12 holes)--Jordan Woffinden shot a four-over 53 in 12 holes at Coto de Caza for Trabuco Hills (5-1, 2-0).

In Sunset League girls’ swimming:

Fountain Valley 103, Marina 81--Grace Wang won the 50 freestyle in 26.57 for host Fountain Valley. Ali Mijares won the 200 individual medley (1:56.59) and 500 freestyle (5:07.92) for Marina.
