In Academy League softball:

St. Margaret’s 15, Fairmont 0 (5, mercy)--Abby Arnold pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and hit a home run for visiting St. Margaret’s (6-2, 1-0). Her sister, Amber, had three hits, including two triples, and three runs batted in for the Tartans.

In the Covina Western Christian softball tournament:

Orange Lutheran 6, Van Nuys Montclair Prep 5 (time limit)--Sheri Harako hit a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie for Orange Lutheran (5-0). Molly Slane had three hits for Orange Lutheran.

In the Laguna Hills tournament:

Pacifica 4, Foothill 1--Toni Mascarenas hit a two-run home run in the first inning as No. 2 Pacifica defeated the defending tournament champion.

Amanda Freed struck out 13 to improve to 2-0 for the Mariners (4-0), as Pacifica handed the No. 3 Knights their first loss of the season (8-1). Marie Gieron (4-1) took the loss for Foothill.

In Foothill’s semifinal game against Saugus, Sarah Evans scored from third base on an infield single to give the Knights a 1-0 victory. Sophomore Lindsay Fossatti gave up three hits.

In nonleague softball:

Katella 4, Western 3 (9 innings)--Katella (3-2) tied the score in the eighth inning and scored the winning run the following inning when Mandy Vanderberg scored from second on an error.

Villa Park 8, Magnolia 0--Senior Tammie Kincaid hit a three-run homer in the third inning, scored a run and pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Villa Park (3-4).

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Canyon 102, Fullerton 68--Freshman Darby Schlaht set a school record in the 100 butterfly, swimming 1 minute 07.90 seconds to break the 14-year-old record of Shannon Clark. Schlaht also won the 500 freestyle and was part of two winning relays. Schlaht’s teammates, Melissa Luque and Laurie Osuna, were also double event winners.

In nonleague boys’ track and field:

Dana Hills 70, Laguna Hills 57--Steve Anstead led the Dolphins (2-0), winning four events and posting the county’s top marks in the long jump (21-8) and triple jump (43-3 1/2). He also won the 100 and 200 meters.
