Kern Valley of Lake Isabella broke a 74-year-old Southern Section scoring record with a 46-0 victory over Lone Pine at Kern Valley last week. The game was called after 4 1/2 innings, but not before the Broncs scored nine runs in the first inning, 22 in the second, two in the third, and 13 in the fourth to break the record of 45 set by Whittier in a game against Garden Grove in 1922. “They just made a lot of errors and we had a lot of hits,” Kern Valley Coach Mike Genthner said. “By the bottom of the second, I had played 17 players and six different guys had pitched.” Lone Pine’s performance can be traced, in part, to the school’s track team. The program started this spring, and many former baseball players went out for track, leaving the team with only nine players. Lone Pine had one hit in the fifth inning and made 11 errors. Kern Valley had 26 hits. . . . The Babe Herman tournament in Glendale starts April 6 and will run through April 10, with 16 teams competing. The finals will be played at Stengel Field.
