San Clemente Topples Mater Dei in Five Games

Kate Metzger had 21 kills to help San Clemente, ranked fifth in the Southern Section Division II-AA, defeat Mater Dei, 9-15, 15-10, 16-18, 15-12, 15-2, Thursday in a South Coast League girls’ volleyball match at Mater Dei.

Bridget Beschen added 20 kills for the Tritons (3-7, 2-3 in league).

Lauren Warner had 21 kills for Mater Dei (4-5, 3-2), ranked third in Division I-A.

In other South Coast League matches:

Capistrano Valley 3, Mission Viejo 0--Sara Sedgwick had eight kills for fifth-ranked Capistrano Valley (7-2, 3-1), which won, 15-8, 15-12, 15-4.

Dana Hills 3, Trabuco Hills 0--April Schleede had seven kills for third-ranked Dana Hills (8-1, 4-0), which won, 15-3, 15-11, 15-2.

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 3, Century 2--Kim Kelemen had 11 kills for Kennedy (4-6, 2-2), which won, 7-15, 15-3, 5-15, 15-11, 15-9. Allie Napier had 22 kills for Century (6-4, 3-1).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, Fullerton 1--Sunny Nicholas had 23 kills for Sunny Hills (3-7, 3-1) in its 15-13, 15-11, 11-15, 15-6 victory. Lauren Duggins had 11 kills for Fullerton (5-3, 3-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 3, Los Amigos 2--Jana James had 19 kills for Bolsa Grande (9-3, 4-3) in a 11-15, 15-11, 0-15, 15-12, 16-14 victory.

Pacifica 3, La Quinta 0--Amanda Freed had 13 kills for visiting Pacifica (8-1, 7-0), which won, 15-3, 15-7, 15-6. Heidi Foster and Nadiya Aziz each had 10 kills for La Quinta (1-9, 1-6).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 3, Estancia 0--Ashley Roth had 12 kills in a 15-1, 15-4, 15-2 victory for sixth-ranked Laguna Beach (8-1, 4-0).

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 3, Woodbridge 0--Joanna Fielder had eight kills for seventh-ranked Newport Harbor (5-3, 4-0), which won, 15-4, 15-13, 15-4.

Santa Margarita 3, Corona del Mar 1--Kiki Maroutsos had 16 kills for eighth-ranked Santa Margarita (6-2, 4-0), which won, 13-15, 15-8, 15-7, 15-8. Jordana Havriluk had 22 kills for 10th-ranked Corona del Mar (3-5, 1-3).
