No. 8 LA PUENTE BISHOP AMAT (5-1) vs. No. 4 LOYOLA (5-1)
* At Glendale High, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
* Coaches: Steve Grady, Loyola, 21st year; Tom Salter, Bishop Amat, third year.
* The matchup: Grady is one of the most successful coaches in the Southland with a career record of 185-54-4, but he’s 1-12 against Bishop Amat, including 11 consecutive losses. Bishop Amat defeated the Cubs twice last season, the second time in the Southern Section Division I final, 14-10. Loyola appears to have a good chance to break that string. The Lancers’ defense is giving up an average of 20 points, and their offense has been inconsistent. Breon Ansley has emerged as Bishop Amat’s top running back with more than 900 yards. Loyola also likes to run the ball with juniors Stephen Faulk and Wesley Willard sharing duties. Quarterback Ray Kaspar has returned from a leg injury. An estimated 70,000 have attended the last six games between these schools, and another capacity crowd is expected.
