8 Tonight at Coliseum

OFFENSE

* QUARTERBACKS: Either Taft’s Nick DiPadova (174 of 298, 2,570 yards, 31 touchdowns) or San Pedro’s Melvin Yarbrough (113 of 183, 1,774 yards, 21 touchdowns) will be City 4-A player of year. Both are effective runners as well. DiPadova has run for 17 touchdowns. EDGE TO: TAFT

* RUNNING BACKS: Taft has two quality tailbacks--sophomore Marquis Brignac (5-foot-9, 170 pounds) and junior Sedric Hurns (5-9, 180). But the Pirates have more depth with Rod Williams (5-9, 171), Cory Smith (6-1, 198), Jomar Butler (6-1, 208) and Holman Wiggans (5-11, 191). EDGE TO: SAN PEDRO

* RECEIVERS: Deepest part of Taft’s offense includes Damon Coleman (6-1, 190), Keith Johnson (5-11, 175), Alex Scheer (6-0, 190) and Ryan Long (5-8, 155). Each has at least 35 catches. Jose Bojorquez (6-0, 175) leads San Pedro with 34. EDGE TO: TAFT

* LINE: Might be the Toreadors’ biggest weakness, if only because the linemen lack size and play both ways. San Pedro isn’t much bigger but the Pirates have more depth and have consistently opened holes. EDGE TO: SAN PEDRO

DEFENSE

* LINE: Charles Mason (6-4, 210), Clint Evans (6-2, 195) and Lonnel Black (6-0, 190) have all made big plays for Taft. Senior nose guard Travis White (6-0, 256) leads San Pedro with 99 tackles and nine sacks. EDGE TO: TAFT

* LINEBACKERS: Strongest part of Taft’s defense includes tackle leader Leo Haywood (5-8, 175), sack leader Donte Morgan (6-1, 175) and emotional leader Tyler Brennan (6-2, 190). Ryan Solomona (6-2, 219) has 94 tackles for San Pedro. EDGE TO: TAFT

* SECONDARY: Pirates have Division I prospects Anthony Banks (5-11, 179), Butler, Erik Hansen (6-2, 172) and Steve Smith (6-2, 187). Toreadors counter with Johnson, Coleman, Hurns and Jaron Lawson. EDGE TO: SAN PEDRO

* KICKERS: Pirate kicker Giuseppe Cracchiolo has five field goals, including one from 50 yards. Taft’s Jaime Mena missed three kicks from inside 32 yards last week against Westchester. DiPadova and Butler are both solid punters. EDGE TO: SAN PEDRO
