Tustin Has No Problem Defeating Palm Springs

TUSTIN — The final score may indicate otherwise, but Tustin Coach Myron Miller wasn’t in much of a mood to praise his team’s effort in a 45-7 victory over Palm Springs Friday at Tustin High.

The Tillers (2-0) are ranked fifth in Orange County, but Miller said his team needed to play with more intensity.

“We got sloppy,” Miller said. “I was real unhappy with our play after the first quarter.”

The biggest reason for his concern was eight penalties for 85 yards and five fumbles, two of which were recovered by the Indians (0-2).

Tustin got another big game statistically from senior running back DeShaun Foster, who scored four touchdowns and rushed for 188 yards in 22 carries. He would have had a fifth, but he fumbled before crossing the goal line. Teammate Mike Rogers recovered the ball for the score.

Tustin led, 24-0, at halftime when kicker Adam Teschke kicked a 45-yard field goal.

The Tillers worked on their passing game a little more against the Indians in the second half.

Quarterback Todd Scott, who attempted only two passes against Foothill last week, was four of seven for 115 yards and a touchdown. Julius Williams accounted for all 115 yards, including a 32-yard score in the third quarter.

Tustin’s defense stepped up its play for the second straight week.

The unit limited Palm Springs to 107 rushing, most of which came on the Indians’ final drive and a one-yard touchdown by quarterback Derrick Gray.
