The victory improved the Lancers’ record to 2-0-1. Laguna Beach, the third straight public high school team that Orange Lutheran has faced in nonleague competition, fell to 0-3.
Renevier’s big night began with the Lancers already ahead, 14-0, in the first quarter.
The Lancers got good field possession at their 47. Orange Lutheran’s sophomore quarterback Jason Whieldon completed a short pass to Renevier on the first play and Dee Meza added a 13-yard run. Whieldon connected with Renevier for a 35-yard touchdown play with 30 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Laguna Beach missed a 27-yard field-goal attempt on the ensuing drive. On their next possession, the Artists were forced to punt from their 16. Renevier caught the short kick on the run and went 32 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown and a 28-0 lead.
Laguna Beach failed to move the ball on their next drive. The Lancers blocked the Artists’ next punt to get the ball at the Laguna Beach 18. On the first play, Whieldon dropped back and found an open Renevier for the touchdown pass.
Laguna Beach scored its only touchdown with no time remaining in the first half.
Artist quarterback Morgan Reynolds passed to Kyle Johnson for a 47-yard touchdown.
